At Duck

I dreamed I slept down by the sea.
The gulls and ghost crabs welcomed me.
The sea birds sang their lullaby,
Beneath a sparkling starry sky.

I dreamed I sailed to far off lands,
Past gleaming beacons in the sand,
Away from wind and shore and lea
To vanish on a midnight sea.

I gave my youth to drifting tides.
The gentle breezes were my guides.
I heard the sea's familiar roar
On many a strange and foreign shore.

A sailor leads a different life:
No stable port, no home or wife.
I danced beneath the stars above,
But none could match my one true love.

Often late I'd make my rounds
Through sleeping streets of harbor towns,
And wonder how my life would be
Were I not drawn so to the sea.

One evening in my sleep it came.
It seemed to know and call my name.
Across the wide and windswept sea,
Time and home were calling me.

Life is a gift, as all must know.
There comes a time to let it go.
I cast away when day was done
And sailed into the setting sun

Between the stars and endless deep
I'll close my eyes in peaceful sleep.
Till gently touched the moment when
In God's hands I'm home again

I dreamed I slept down by the sea.
The gulls and ghost crabs welcomed me.
The sea birds sang their lullaby,
Beneath a sparkling starry sky.
